Do not purchase cancer insurance from this company. The company does everything possible to not pay what the policy promises. When a claim is submitted, the company always needs more information. On a scale of one to ten I rate th company a minus.

A terrible company. Slow service, Rude people answering the phones. I have question about my coverage and no one helps. They are quick to deny a claim but drag their feet when approving one. I have requested to be called multiple times about issue and never, not once have I received a call. Terrible customer service. I do not recommend this company.

Would give 0 stars if possible. They will drag out your claim for months then say they won't pay or will only pay half. SCAM...STAY AWAY FROM THIS INSURANCE. Rude customer service that says it is YOUR job to collect the info, although they request medical records from the hospital. The reps will talk over you and say that you can file a "formal appeal" Guess what that does?...Makes your wait even LONGER.

After a year of attempting to have my account surrendered, and after 2 notarized documents, I finally received my check. This account has not grown over the +10 years it sat. Was not a positive experience.

My husband was hurt and the only thing this company did was make excuses for why they could not help us. They had us down for disability insurance when we had accident insurance. Every time I called I would get a new story. We were denied for the accident my husband had even though the hospital admit stated he fell off of the couch. I trusted this company and now I know that they were in it for the money not to help families. He was in the hospital for 7 days and they said nothing happened to him . I pray they don't do this to anyone else.

I would have given this company a minus 10. Beware if your parents have an IRA with this company. They will make it almost impossible to obtain the money at surrender time. They do not accept a clients signature is different after 30 years . They have found 4 different reasons to not surrender the money this far. After receiving your documents it takes them 1o days to respond by mail. I have had to chase them. My mother is 90 is in a Memory Care facility in a wheelchair. She needs the money to pay for her care. Beware before you invest with Washington National.

This company has made it extremely difficult to roll over a retirement account or to close the account. Our retirement account with Washington National was of minimal size (<$1000) but the steps needed to either roll it over or surrender it more than 25 years after it was created and when the insured party was more than 70 years old indicate a complete lack of interest in the well being of the policy holder and an intent interest in not losing control of the funds.

I have been reading the reviews on this company to try and decide if I should complain or not. I read the review that said people only complain when they have a problem and not when they don't. Excuse me? My experience with this company has not been anything to brag about but I believe their problem lies in the lack of training their employees. My husband passed away in December and it took me until the end of March to receive the check. As many of the complaints mention, I had trouble with forms they required. When people are grieving they are not thinking clearly. There was no help whatsoever in completing these forms. I had to complete the same forms three times - with weeks in between in which no help was offered when I kept calling to find out what was going on. Finally, I was told that I had completed the forms incorrectly because I was NOT the beneficiary as I thought. The Estate was. Couldn't they have told me that the first time? It seems the employees are not trained to help individuals but only to help the company. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I have no idea who my agent is because when my husband and I took the policy out, the company had another name. It went through, I believe, three name changes while we had it. We have an annuity policy with them and if the review on that was correct I see I am not done filling out forms yet. I have written a letter to their Corporate office requesting help with the name of an agent and the Annuity policy. Let's see how long that takes, if at all.

WORST IDEA EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU HAVE MONEY THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO THROW AWAY THEN BUT A POLICY WITH THESE CROOKS. BETTER YET GIVE IT TO CHARITY. BOUGHT A POLICY FROM THEM AND HAD PREMIUMS DRAFTED. EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL I REALIZED THESE POLICIES ARE NOT A GOOD IDEA ANYWAY AND WANTED TO TRIM SOME UNNECESSARY EXSPENDITURES SINCE IM APPROACHING RETIREMENT IN A FEW YEARS AND I MADE CONTACT WITH THEM TO CANCEL POLICY. THEY MAKE YOU JUMP THROUGH A BUNCH OF HOOPS JUST TO CANCEL IN HOPES YOU"LL STAY WHICH THEY TELL YOU UP FRONT THAT CANCELLATION TAKES A MINIMUM OF 15 BUSINESS DAYS SO YOU CAN PLAN AN ADDITIONAL MONTHS PREMIUM AFTER YOU WISH TO CANCEL. CONVENIENT FOR THEM OBVIOUSLY. AFTER I DID ALL THAT AND THEY SENT A LETTER ACCEPTING MY CANCELLATION AND SENT A SMALL REFUND CHECK TO ME THEY CONTINUE TO SEND DELIQUENT LETTERS SAYING I NEVER CANCELED. WHEN I CALLED I GET SOME LADY THAT IS GOOD AT SPEAKING NO LANGUAGE KNOWN TO MAN AND HAS A HORRIBLE ATTITUDE FROM HELLO. I HAVE NO IDEA AS TO A TIME FRAME OR THE CONDITION OF MY CREDIT SCORE WHEN THIS WILL BE RESOLVED. I WISH I HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THIS COMPANY. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AS FAR FROM THEM AS POSSIBLE. THIS REVIEW IS NOT MEANT TO HURT THEM BUT TO HELP YOU. TRUST ME ! PUT YOUR MONEY IN THE BANK YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF IT THERE. IF YOU BECOME ILL YOU CAN ACCESS IT. PLENTY OF REVIEWS THAT SAY IF YOU HAVE A CLAIM ITS EVEN WORSE. THE ONLY REASON I DIDNT GIVE THEM A ZERO IS BECAUSE ITS NOT AN OPTION. THIS SHOULDN'T BE LEGAL.

Hi this insurance company is the worst when you really need them. I joined with Conseco Insurance Company in 2009, they sold me on the insurance plan they had the reason I join with them. In 2010 they merged into another CNO company Washington National Insurance Co. worse mistake. This insurance company never contacted me with an agent whom you could call if you had questions nor have they been considerate if you had any concerns about your policies. I called them for some mammogram claims because they were suppose to give you monies if you take a mammogram every year and I had a hard time collecting the claims for that. I left Aflac Insurance Company to go to Conseco I should have followed my first mind and stayed with them. Washington National is not concerned about the health and welfare of their clients. They give you the run a round and now since you have to use the claims you paid for they are hesitant with paying you. I hate I every stayed with they company, but now I need to get what I put into it because of my situation I need my claims paid. The customer service do not seek to dig deep and help you to settle these claims they just wait until you call or sit on your claims. I am so disappointed with this company. Please check the history before you invest in any of their policies to be sure you get the best out of what they offer. Make sure you read all the information they send because they talk in riddles and when you think you getting one thing the policy says another. I hate I ever stayed with this company.

Money takers! Collected premiums for awhile then I received a letter saying my application had been suspended....not enough info on application. It was enough to take premiums until I contacted employer to stop auto deduct. Can not get anyone to call me back or even the salesman that sold the policy..horrible money takers. I just want my premiums refunded.

This company has phone advisors who do not know how to help customers. They are vague and do not have anyone to help them. I spoke to two different individuals that could not assist with my transition from paycheck payment to a credit card payment. The first one took the payment and told me they could not have it auto-pay and would have to call back. I called back and the individual was helpful and performed the auto-pay but it never happened. Now they are sending a LAPSE NOTICE and I owe $1.76.

I read all of the reviews and they do not sound anything like the service I received. I had a cancer policy originally with CONSECO with a rider for intensive care. My late husband was in intensive care two times. The first time, in 1998, I received $100/a day as stated in the policy. 9 yearfs later, my husband was again in intensive care and I was expecting the same $100/day, but was pleasantly surprised to receive $300/day. Three years ago, I had cancer. The policy paid promptly and according to the policy I had. By the trime I had cancer, my husband had died. I had never reported that, but when the agent learned that my husband had died and I was still paying a premium based on two people, I received back payments for 9 years, even though I did not even file a claim for that. I have been very pleased with Conseco/Washington National and have recommended it to my children.

This company is the biggest joke on earth!!!!! I was diagnosed with breast cancer June 2015. We started sending info to Washington national right away. They have been sent over 100 pages, finally sent a check for a drop in the bucket of what we should get. We have turned this over to the Kansas State Ins. Commissioner's office . they said it usually takes 30 to 45 days to get results. We are still waiting after 4 mo. with that complaint. We are planning to get an attorney, and will be writing letters to editors in many of the large newspapers, not only in our state, but others. When someone has been diagnosed with cancer, or any of the other supplemental policies this company sells, there should never have to be any of this nonsense. We now understand why there are lawsuits for pain, suffering, etc. along with the original complaint! I hope people read this and take notice.....do NOT pay their exorbitant premiums and get nothing but hassles in return! I could about write a book with our experience, but will answer questions if anyone wants.

Washington National is a horrible insurance company, that is the bottom line here. I have a short term disability rider with Washington National and I wish I would have went with AFLAC. In my contract there was nothing said about a two year clause that says basically they can take as long as they need to approve my claim. I am injured and have been of the job now for a while. I got this insurance to help me in the time of need. My time of need is now and they could care less about my needs even though they got their premiums on time. I also used another insurance rider I had on my son, he had to go to the emergency room. I submitted all the necessary documentation and about 4 months later they sent me a check, by that time I actually wrote them off and was very discouraged that a company that I pay premiums to every month on time would treat their customers as they do. This is corporate greed at its finest. They want all of your money but will refuse and making as painful as possible for you to get your benefits from them.

As expected, their rate jumped @$100/month as a Medigap insurance company for someone on SSDI. This is a diff. of $1100 FOR ONE YEAR. What will it be next year and the years after that. They got me. I can drop them and will take this under serious consideration or wait to run far from them when SSDI converts to SS.

I've been tracking increases for this company. I feel (subjective, of course) I was fooled into thinking Consesco (which became this company) was a reasonable choice. What more do I give up in an limited life. I don't know yet.

This is the most unethical company I have ever dealt with. I've been trying to transfer an annuity going on 75 days. They just keep asking for more and more documentation(far more than another company that I'm doing the same thing with). Then when they get all the documentation required, they delay, delay, delay transferring the funds.

Several years ago my family purchased the accident plan. 6 months later my brother died in an accident the policy paid out very fast and check was delivered by the agent. This agent has many good referals from friends and neighbors on claims payments. It all comes down to the agent no0t the company. you want an agent who is going to go to bat for you and help file claims it is much easier to get paid if the claim is filed correctly. I processed claims for 4 years most often if denied it was because the claim was not worded correctly. One denied it is harder to get the claim paid. I would recommend them to anyone

After reading the complaints about this company I can see why they said it will take 15 business days for them to sent me a check. I fax every thing to them you would think they could write the check when they had all the paper work.No she said 15 business days. Most places say 8 days. Now I can see why people are up set with the company. Told them why I needed this sooner didn't care what I had to say.

Here is it March and we still have not received payment for January and February. I submitted all paperwork they asked for, again, and they tell me they have not received it. I called again on 3/2/15 and was told our checks would be in the mail this week. I called again 3/5/15 and Brad told me he could not help me and would have to transfer me to someone who handles my husbands policy. Well surprise, surprise, no one was available. I left a voice mail for Kathy and guess what. She did not get back to me. We have had nothing, but problems with this company including breach of confidentiality. For some reason they had my brother in laws name on correspondence instead of my husbands and where they got the Dr's name is completely beyond me. I told them I did not know who this Dr. was and they insisted I gave them the information. Forms I mailed to them on 2/14/15 still were not received or processed on 2/23/15. They were mailed from Minnesota and only going to Michigan. I told Kathy I was going to find the appropriate agency to report this company to. They have made numerous errors in processing my husbands claim and in handling the claim. Now every time I try to call I am disconnected.

I am writing this review on behalf of my father who is now 90 years old. My father took out a Long Term Care (LTC) policy when he was 75. I wish my father would have confided in my knowledge of insurance company's. I would have advised him to stay clear of this company as well as any insurance company. My father now is now in a nursing home and is in need of collecting his monthly benefits that this company promised him. I started the paperwork in November of 2013. This company continued to keep requesting additional paperwork thru May 2014 only to be denied. To this date I continue to be engulfed with unnecessary paperwork. All insurance companies do not get to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars or even worth billions by paying out claims. All of their policies are designed for the company and their investors. They make the policy appear to be towards your benefit until you file a claim. Their policies are designed to DELAY & DENY. They now that your money is in their bank collecting interest for them while they drag you out for months. In most cases you will need to get Finra or your state insurance commission or even a lawyer involved. This company is very extremely frustrating to work with. Also you need to understand some simple math that is involved when you purchase whole life, cancer, and LTC policies. Approximately 20% of your premium will go towards the companies overhead. If your company is on the stock market approximately another 8 to 10% will go to investors thru out the year. On top of all that, every payment you make a little commission goes back to the salesman that sold you the policy. Now if this company doesn't give back to the investors a return of at least 8% than the investors will sell their stock and buy into companies that will give them a return they want. At least 30% of your payment doesn't even go towards your policy. If you are disciplined enough to make those monthly payments and or quarterly payment, you will thousands ahead by time you need the money if you put your money into a savings account and hire a financial advisor to handle and or invest your savings. Financial advisors only charge anywhere from 1 to 5 % to handle/invest your money.

Stay away from all insurance companies selling you life, cancer, and long term care insurance. These folks are quick at taking your money and will drag you thru hell and back before you get any of YOUR money back.

It seems like on here I only see negative reviews and no positive reviews because the only people who write reviews are the ones who are unhappy with the company. I have been with the company for a while, back when they were Conseco, and I have to say I am very pleased. My mother went through breast cancer and without this company I couldn't imagine the financial hardship we would have went through. They paid everything the said and upon asking their agent for help on submitting claims they came out and helped with the claims process. I believe most people who have difficulties didn't ask their agent or another to help in that process. Very pleasant people to work with and I will promote this company to everyone. Just dont be afraid to ask for help! :)

They continually find excuses for not paying claims. You never can send enough info to them. Once you have submitted the things they ask for here comes another set of requests. They will pay express pay once you are diagnosed with cancer but are unwilling to process claims for radiation, chemo, hospital stays, etc. They seem to ignore State Insurance Commission Office requests just as they ignore policy holder. Agent that sold policy said it was his job to sell, not process claims.

This is a terrible company. I have had a policy for 30 years. They sent me a letter telling me they had miscalculated my premium adjustments over the years so I have three choices. Two of which are totally unacceptable. End result is they reduced the face amount of the life coverage by almost $30,000. They have been totally incompetent. Just hope they pay when I die. If not I hope my daughter sues them.

I recently had cancer. When I submitted a claim it was like I didn't know anything. The company told me I never had cancer and they wouldn't pay. I reported them to the State Board of Insurance and finally got paid. It was such a hassle that I dropped the policy. It shouldn't be this hard. I would avoid this company like the plaque. After 22 years of premiums on time every time I did not think I was treated fairly until I brought in a higher authority. It shouldn't be this way.

Washington National is the worst insurance company I have ever had to deal with. A simple disability claim turned into a 7 month argument with a company that made excuse after excuse. I was denied a claim for a total of 9 different reasons, not 1, 9. And all of the excuses I proved wrong with documentation from physicians. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

First, I did not know that the company changed. Second, I was advised that if I cancelled early that I would get back what I put in, which I found out is not true. The sales reps fabricate info because I would have never bought into the policy, so PLEASE avoid this company.
